Job description
Detention Custody Officer – Dover & Folkestone

Salary £32,635 per annum; contractual hours 42; Fixed Shift Pattern provided in advance. Full flexibility is required as this is a 24‑hour service, 365 days a year – your rolling shift pattern will cover both days and nights.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain high standards of security and safety while promoting the welfare and decency of residents.
  • Handle an ever‑changing day requiring strong people skills, patience, resilience and professionalism.
  • Support colleagues and work collaboratively in teams to deliver exceptional service to residents.
  • Apply problem‑solving skills and remain calm under pressure.

Essential criteria

  • UK citizen or Commonwealth citizen with indefinite leave to remain (not through marriage) or an EEA citizen.
  • Valid, in‑date passport with no restrictions on stay in the UK.
  • Continuously resided in the UK for the previous 3 years with no more than 3 months spent overseas at any one time.
  • Over 21 years of age.
  • Full UK manual driving licence, at least 12 months post‑qualifying experience, fewer than 7 points on the licence, and no driving ban in the last 12 months.
  • Not currently bankrupt.
  • Successful candidates will undergo Enhanced DBS and Counter‑Theatre Checks (CTC).

Training and career development

  • 4‑week Initial Training Course (ITC) – followed by one year of supervision and assessments to gain an accredited Level 3 apprenticeship in Detention and Custody.
