Job summary

Tewkesbury Academy is seeking a Design Technology Technician on a permanent basis to support teaching and learning by preparing resources, maintaining equipment and ensuring a safe learning environment for students and staff.

You will work with a range of tools and machinery, manage stock and assist with safeguarding, inclusivity and wellbeing commitments across the department.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
• Education to A Level Design & Technology, or equivalent practical experience.

Job Title: Technician (Design Technology) Actual Annual Salary: £18,605 - £20,279 (Based on hours and weeks worked) Full Time Equivalent Salary: £26,798 - £29,208 (CLF Grade B) Based on full time hours, all year round. Contract Type: Permanent Hours: 30 hours per week - Part Time, Term Time Only plus Inset days Additional Information: This role is contracted for 30 hours per week, working 7.5 hours per day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, with flexibility around working arrangements available for discussion at interview. Potential Start Date: October 2026 (Subject to completion of pre-employment checks)

An opportunity to use your practical and technical expertise to support outstanding teaching and learning in Design & Technology. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Design & Technology Technician to join Tewkesbury Academy on a permanent basis. This role offers the chance to support the delivery of an engaging Design & Technology curriculum by providing technical assistance, preparing specialist resources, and helping to maintain a safe, well-organised learning environment for students and staff. Working closely with the Curriculum Lead, teachers and wider academy colleagues, you will prepare, organise and maintain the equipment, materials and resources required for practical activities across the department. This may include supporting areas such as resistant materials, graphics, as well as managing stock, setting up and clearing away resources, and ensuring specialist equipment is available and ready for use. A key aspect of the role is promoting high standards of health and safety. You will support compliance with relevant regulations, undertake routine equipment checks, contribute to risk assessments, and help staff and students use specialist tools and machinery safely and effectively. You will build positive working relationships with students, staff, suppliers and contractors, providing practical advice and technical support where needed. The role also offers opportunities to contribute to wider academy activities, including open evenings, enrichment events and departmental projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an organised, proactive and practically minded individual who enjoys working in a busy educational environment. Whether you have previous technician experience or transferable skills from industry, you will play an important role in supporting students' learning while developing your own technical expertise as part of a dedicated and supportive team at Tewkesbury Academy.

You will have:

• Good literacy and numeracy skills, including GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).
• Education to A Level standard in Design & Technology, or relevant practical experience within a Design & Technology environment.
• Experience of working with specialist equipment and following established procedures and safe working practices.
• The ability to maintain, clean, organise and support the safe use of tools, machinery and resources.
• Strong organisational, administration and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
• Confident IT skills and the ability to maintain accurate records and inventories.
• An understanding of health and safety requirements, including COSHH and safe workshop practices, or a willingness to develop this knowledge.
• A clear commitment to safeguarding, equality, inclusion and the wellbeing of children and young people.
