Job description

Job Title: Teacher of Design & Technology (Resistant Materials – Woodwork & Metalwork)
Location: Wakefield, West Yorkshire
Salary: MPS/UPS (depending on experience)
Contract Type: Full-time | Permanent
Start Date: September 2025

Love sawdust, soldering, and shaping young minds? We’ve got just the job for you.

We're on the lookout for a brilliant DT Teacher with a passion for Resistant Materials, especially woodwork and metalwork, to join our friendly Wakefield secondary school. Whether you're a whizz with a lathe or just really good at making sure Year 10s wear their goggles, we want to hear from you!

What’s the role all about?
  • Teaching engaging and practical lessons in woodwork, metalwork, and resistant materials at GCSE level

  • Inspiring the next generation of designers, builders, and engineers

  • Keeping our workshop safe, well-stocked, and full of ideas

  • Helping students turn their sketches into something they can actually hold in their hands

  • Working with a great team of techy, crafty, and creative colleagues

What we’d love from you:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience teaching DT at secondary level

  • Confident working with tools and machinery (and ensuring everyone still has 10 fingers at the end of the lesson!)

  • A creative mindset and a practical approach to problem-solving

  • Enthusiasm for helping students succeed – whether they’re destined for design school or the trades

  • A good sense of humour and a willingness to get stuck in

What you’ll get in return:
  • A well-equipped workshop and a supportive, down-to-earth team

  • Opportunities for CPD and professional growth

  • Students who are curious, creative (and sometimes a bit chaotic – in the best way!)

  • Leadership that appreciates your hard work and values your ideas

  • Plenty of cups of tea, teamwork, and the odd celebratory cake in the staffroom

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
