We are excited to announce a great opportunity for a designer or technical manager looking to take the next step in their career and join our team of industry experts in providing technical and design support for our software and connector product ranges.

The Design Office Consultant (Timber Frame Specialism) will be responsible for delivering exemplary, first-class technical support for our Gang-Nail and Alpine software suites. This will include but is not limited to design work, technical support, building code guidance, best practice advice, detailing requirements, and generally creating high trust relationships with our key customers.

Due to our current design office skillsets and the needs of our customer base, we are seeking a candidate with a high-level expertise in Timber Frame, where you will become the go-to within the team on this topic. You will also require a good level of experience and knowledge on Truss and Floor design.

The role will therefore also support our prospective growth plans in Timber Frame, becoming an expert in our iPanel framing software (full training provided) able to demo, train and support conversions for new and prospective customers remotely, able to travel to face-to-face opportunities when required.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain relationships with key (80) customers to provide exemplary technical and design support enabling customers to maximise the product offering in line with their business and manufacturing requirements.
• Become the leading knowledge base within the business for the iPanel Timber Frame software, both from a support and a growth enabler position.
• Take the role of a Timber Frame expert in the design office, supporting customers and colleagues alike, but who is also able to provide customer support on Truss and Floor day to day.
• Support further development of iPanel software offering, by collating feedback from yourself and customers, analysing potential developments in regulations or market trends that we should explore.
• Support training and upskilling of colleagues in timber frame and iPanel knowledge.
• Lead and contribute to engineering discussions between the Technical, R&D and Software Development teams to continuously improve and develop our software and product offering.
• Identify customer support and product trends and utilise the ITW Customer Back Innovation (CBI) toolbox, working with other key stakeholders within the business to further improve our technical service, software and product offerings.
• Support development of iPanel training materials, assisting the Software Training Developer in creating a robust and scalable training offering as necessary.
• Review internal and customer software releases in keeping within our internal familiarisation processes to test and understand new features and provide pre-release feedback to the Software Development teams as necessary.
• Contributing content for our technical portal.
• Take ownership for personal and professional development to continuously build on ITWCP product knowledge and industry regulation.
• Apply and understand ITW Toolbox to working methods and approach, utilising ‘80.20’ methodology for time and project management.
• Ensure the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues.
• Always embody the ITW core principles of Integrity, simplicity, trust, respect, and shared risk.

Experience And Skills

• 4+ years experience with Timber Frame detailing and design at a UK fabricator.
• 2+ years experience with roof and truss design at a UK fabricator.
• Demonstrable experience in reading technical drawings, calculations, and specifications.
• Experience using AutoCAD or equivalent draughting package.
• Use of either Floor, Truss or Timber frame draughting, and design software essential.
• Demonstrate strong understanding of building standards, trade association guidelines, and building regulations relating to timber frame.
• Deep understanding of offsite construction industry and practices at a manufacturing level – truss, joist, and timber frame.
• Experience interacting with customers in a service or support capacity.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience working within a customer-centred technical role.
• Ability to travel regionally up to 20% of the time (team meetings, customer visits).
