Job summary

Contract Scotland is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead design management on major building projects in Toronto, Canada. You will coordinate design across architects, engineers and contractors, ensuring alignment with client requirements, budget and schedule.

The role requires 5-7 years in design management on large projects, plus strong leadership, communication and UK/Canada project delivery exposure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, or a related field.
• 5-7 years of design management experience in construction, including large-scale projects.
• Experience leading cross-functional teams, managing timelines and budgets.
• Experience with design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp) and knowledge of codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Lead design oversight and coordination across projects, ensuring timely delivery of design stages.
• Manage a team of designers, architects and engineers; foster collaboration with other departments.
• Develop and monitor project timelines and budgets for design activities; support value engineering while safeguarding design integrity.
• Ensure design work complies with local codes and standards; conduct design reviews for quality control.
• Serve as primary contact for clients and stakeholders; present design progress and incorporate feedback.
• Identify design risks early and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impacts.
