Qualifications and Experience

• Chartered member of the ICE National Water Hygiene EUSR Registration
• Construction Experience – 5 years (degree), 10 years (HND/HNC)
• At least 5 years in design co-ordination role
• Experience in ground engineering, tunnels and shaft construction, and/or water industry
• Management skills with confidence in dealing with staff, clients, figures, design issues, and programmes
• Scripting and automation experience; experience with Power BI
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Project

Role Overview

To manage a design team, promoting a streamlined, efficient design process that delivers safe, practical, and economical designs to a high standard of professional competence, in compliance with regulations and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and implement overall design processes related to delivery, review, assurance, progress measurement, and document control
2. Oversee development of design proposals ensuring alignment with project requirements, budget, and timeline
3. Manage changes to design scope, assessing impacts on cost and programme
4. Create and maintain a register of required design deliverables
5. Report on design progress and prepare necessary reports for cost control
6. Manage interfaces with external and internal design teams
7. Represent the design department at meetings
8. Coordinate with construction teams to ensure design constructability
9. Collaborate with Environmental, Consents, Planning, and Quality departments to ensure design completeness
10. Ensure consistent approach within the design team
11. Provide training and support to the design team
12. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement innovative tools and techniques
13. Manage documentation, storage, and archiving of design documents
14. Ensure compliance with building codes, safety standards, and regulations
15. Prepare conceptual designs aligned with legislation for safe, practical, and economic solutions
16. Manage design interfaces with authorities and regulatory bodies
17. Obtain design approvals at key project milestones
18. Organize collaborative design reviews involving key personnel
19. Promote health and safety through design
20. Apply risk management processes and lead risk reviews such as HAZOPs
21. Ensure effective communication and cooperation within the design team
22. Identify and promote Value Engineering opportunities
23. Prepare documentation for the Health and Safety File
24. Prepare work forecasts and demonstrate leadership
