Job summary

A privately owned, market-leading Main Contractor in Hertfordshire is seeking a Design Manager to lead design delivery on an exciting long-term education portfolio. The role focuses on feasibility through to on-site coordination, with a new build project around £20m in value.

You will manage external consultants, ensure technical compliance, and drive design quality while meeting timelines and commercial targets across Higher Education, High Schools, Academies and Primary Schools.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a design management role for a Main Contractor.
• Sector experience to include Education, Leisure, Commercial, Healthcare, Life Science.
• Previous Roles May Include: Technical Manager | Assistant Design Manager | Design Manager | Design Coordinator | Design & Build Manager.

Responsibilities

• Acting as a liaison between the design team, client, and on-site delivery team.
• Ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
• Driving efficient design process aligned with project timelines and commercial targets.

Education

HNC or Degree in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Structural Engineering, Architectural Technology OR comparable qualification

This role offers the opportunity to lead and support design delivery across an exciting long term education sector portfolio spanning Higher Education, High Schools, Academies and Primary Schools.

The Design Manager will be responsible for managing the design process from early feasibility and planning stages through to on-site coordination and delivery, taking responsibility for a new build project c£20m in value.

Duties & Responsibilities:

While focusing primarily on early feasibility and procurement stages, the Design Manager will oversee technical compliance and design management, monitoring on-site design coordination and managing the performance of external consultants.

• Acting as a liaison between the design team, client, and on-site delivery team.
• Ensuring technical accuracy and compliance with all relevant standards and regulations.
• Driving efficient design process aligned with project timelines and commercial targets

Desirable Experience:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a design management role for a Main Contractor.
• Sector experience to include one of the following:
