Tier 2 Main Contractor in Derbyshire is seeking an experienced Design Manager to take ownership of the design process from pre-construction through to completion, coordinating with clients, consultants, engineers, subcontractors and internal teams.

You will ensure designs are delivered on time, within budget and to required standards, with strong emphasis on coordination, risk resolution and value engineering. Join a growing, collaborative team based in Derby.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Manage design process from pre-construction to project completion.

The Opportunity

We are working with an established Tier 2 main contractor based in Derbyshire, who are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join their growing team.

With a strong portfolio across residential, industrial, commercial and education projects, the business has built an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality schemes throughout the region.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager looking to take ownership of projects from pre-construction through to completion, working closely with clients, consultants, subcontractors and internal project teams.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will be responsible for managing and coordinating the design process across a range of projects, ensuring designs are delivered on time, within budget and to the required quality and technical standards.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Managing the design process from pre-construction through to project completion
• Coordinating architects, consultants, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers
• Reviewing and challenging designs to ensure they are technically compliant, buildable and commercially viable
• Managing design programmes, deliverables and approvals
• Identifying and resolving design issues and risks
• Working closely with the Commercial and Pre-Construction teams
• Attending and leading design coordination meetings
• Managing the RFI and technical query process
• Ensuring compliance with relevant Building Regulations, standards and project specifications
• Supporting value engineering and design development
• Maintaining effective communication between the design and construction teams
• Ensuring design information is issued in line with project programmes
• Contributing to project reviews, reporting and continuous improvement

About You

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager with a strong background working for a main contractor or established construction organisation.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience in a Design Manager role within the construction industry
• Experience working on projects within one or more of the following sectors: residential, industrial, commercial or education
• Strong technical and design coordination knowledge
• A good understanding of construction methods and buildability
• Experience managing consultants and design teams
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
• The ability to manage multiple priorities and work to demanding project programmes
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
• A relevant construction/design qualification is desirable
