Job summary

Galliford Try in Bristol is seeking a Design Manager to lead and coordinate design across projects in the South West. You will manage client and design teams, ensure compliance with CDM 2015, and drive safe, efficient design delivery across multiple sites.

The role emphasizes strong stakeholder engagement, buildability awareness, and commercial acumen to manage design change and opportunities throughout bids and construction.

Qualifications

• CDM 2015 knowledge and experience.
• Awareness of health and safety responsibilities.
• Ability to read and interpret design and construction programmes.
• Understanding of buildability and ability to challenge sequencing.
• Analytical with strong problem-solving skills.
• Ability to develop ideas and present concisely.
• Excellent communication to engage with senior stakeholders.
• Commercial acumen and experience managing design change.

Responsibilities

• Manage client, subcontractor, project and design team relationships to develop and deliver designs efficiently.
• Lead the design process in line with Galliford Try Building Management System.
• Apply and monitor CDM 2015 compliance and safety in design.
• Identify and mitigate design risk and capitalise on opportunities in bids or projects.
• Assist in selecting designers and ensure competency checks.
• Develop scope/responsibilities for consultants and manage fees.
• Create the design programme with planning, manage information release schedules and progress of design deliverables.
• Oversee Planning, Building Control, and BREEAM processes.
• Conduct site inspections to verify as-built meets design criteria.
