Binnies, an RSK Group company, is recruiting a Design Lead to support their growing Flood, Coast & Maritime (FCM) team. The role emphasizes leading large engineering projects or supporting a portfolio of projects. The team undertakes various engineering projects for clients in the Flood Coastal and Maritime sector, including appraisal, business case development, outline design, detailed design, and site supervision.

As a design lead for the engineering teams across the UK, the candidate should have a strong technical background and experience in appraising and designing flood risk management schemes. The primary purpose is to coordinate design within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring quality and timely delivery. You will be responsible for planning and executing engineering projects within scope, budget, and schedule.

You will collaborate with clients, junior team members, and other specialists. Travel to Binnies, client offices, and project sites is essential, especially for supporting major projects.

About the Role
  1. Coordinate design output across all technical disciplines.
  2. Supervise the production of appraisal reports, design drawings, reports, specifications, and calculations within agreed timescales and budgets.
  3. Ensure designs meet technical, safety, and environmental standards, acting as a trusted technical advisor.
  4. Act as Technical Authority, ensuring compliance with quality management systems.
  5. Build and maintain relationships with clients, staff, and supply chain to facilitate project delivery and business growth.
  6. Oversee site supervision of engineering projects.

The role suits candidates with a Civil/Water Engineering background and experience in hydraulics, geotechnics, hydraulic structures, contract management, health & safety, and construction.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering or related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer
