Job summary

Cubed Resourcing Ltd's client, a long-established engineering business, designs high‑speed machinery for the metal packaging sector. From their Shipley site, they are launching a new vending‑tech division and seek a talented Design Engineer to drive three designs from CAD to mass production.

You will join a small, multidisciplinary team at the project's start, shaping the product, creating 3D models and 2D drawings, and applying DFM/DFA to ready the machines for high‑volume manufacture.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Hands-on sheet metal component design experience.
• Background in a high-volume production environment with DFM and DFA.
• Strong 3D CAD skills; SolidWorks or Siemens NX; producing 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Experience supporting prototype builds and design verification trials.
• Understanding of electromechanical systems; collaboration with electrical engineers.
• Proactive problem-solver seeking cost-effective improvements.
• Clear communicator in a close-knit project team.

Responsibilities

• Modify and improve existing designs to meet safety, manufacturability, usability and cost targets.
• Create and develop mechanical components with a focus on sheet metalwork.
• Produce 3D CAD models and accurate 2D drawings and documentation.
• Apply DFM and DFA to ready machines for high-volume production.
• Support prototype builds, product trials and design validation.

Our client is a long-established, globally respected engineering business that designs and manufactures high-speed machinery for the metal packaging industry. From their Shipley site, they supply and support sophisticated equipment used by manufacturers across the world, and they're now branching into something brand new.

This role sits within a newly formed division focused on vending technology. The business is taking three initial designs from their current form through to mass production, and they need a talented Design Engineer to help make that happen.

You'll be joining a small, multidisciplinary team at the very start of the journey, which means this isn't a case of tweaking someone else's legacy drawings. You'll have a genuine opportunity to put your own stamp on the designs, shape how the products evolve, and see your work go from CAD model to prototype to production line.

What you'll be doing

• Modifying and improving existing designs to meet safety compliance, manufacturability, usability and cost targets
• Creating and developing mechanical component designs, with a strong focus on sheet metalwork
• Producing 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Siemens NX or similar) and accurate 2D manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
• Applying Design for Manufacture and Design for Assembly principles to get the machines ready for high-volume production
• Supporting prototype builds, product trials and design validation
• Working closely with Electrical Engineering colleagues to integrate sensors, PCBs and other electromechanical devices
• Working within project budgets and spotting opportunities to bring costs down

What we're looking for

• A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Hands-on experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies
• A background in a high-volume production environment, with a solid understanding of DFM and DFA
• Strong 3D CAD skills, ideally SolidWorks or Siemens NX, plus experience producing 2D manufacturing drawings
• Experience supporting prototype builds and design verification trials
• An understanding of electromechanical systems and confidence working alongside electrical engineers
• A proactive, practical problem-solver who takes ownership and enjoys finding better, smarter, more cost-effective ways of doing things
• A clear communicator who works well as part of a close-knit project team
