Job summary

Babcock is recruiting an Electrical Design Engineer for our Walsall site near Birmingham. You will design and develop electrical and electronic systems to support emergency service and defence vehicle programmes, from concept through production, testing and deployment.

The role is onsite, full-time, with standard hours and a 39-hour week. You will create wiring layouts, drawings, and specifications, integrate components, and support build, validation and issue resolution.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable understanding of vehicle electrical systems and components.
• Experience in automotive electrical design or systems integration.
• Hands-on experience working with vehicle electrical installations.
• Good level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office.

The role

As an Electrical Design Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to design and develop electrical and electronic systems that support critical emergency service and military vehicle programmes. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll see your designs move from concept through to production, testing, and deployment, making a real difference to those who rely on these specialist vehicles every day.

Day-to-day you'll be:

• Designing electrical systems and wiring layouts for specialist vehicle programmes.
• Producing electrical drawings, schematics, and supporting technical documentation.
• Selecting and integrating components including lighting, communications, CCTV, and power systems.
• Supporting vehicle build, testing, validation, and fault-finding activities.
• Collaborating with production teams and suppliers to resolve technical issues and drive product improvements.

The role is based onsite at Walsall, and the set working times are Monday to Thursday, 8:00am to 5:00pm and Friday, 8:00am to 1:00pm, totalling 39 hours per week. Flexibility is available where business needs allow.

Essential experience of the Electrical Design Engineer:

• Demonstrable understanding of vehicle electrical systems and components.
• Experience in automotive electrical design or systems integration.
• Practical hands-on experience working with vehicle electrical installations.
• Good level of computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications.
• Understanding of 2D and 3D CAD modelling and detailing would be advantageous.

Qualifications for the Electrical Design Engineer:

• Level 3 qualification in an Auto Electrical discipline or equivalent qualification.
