Job summary

Envisage Group is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced electrical systems for next-generation armoured vehicles. You will own the electrical architecture, manage 3D CAD models and harness design, and drive PLM workflows with customer reviews, including MOD involvement.

This role combines hands-on CAD work with leadership responsibilities, translating customer requirements into field-ready solutions and guiding the design team through the full lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with PTC Creo in a professional design environment
• Strong experience in electrical harness design and 3D cable modelling
• Familiarity with 3D CAD in a design office and BS8888 standards
• Experience with PLM software, ideally Windchill
• Understanding of configuration control and engineering change management
• Experience in product validation and verification, including environmental requirements
• Clear communication and ability to present to external stakeholders including the MOD
• Full UK Security Clearance (SC) or eligibility to obtain it

Design the electrical systems behind vehicles that protect lives.

Our client, a specialist manufacturer supplying high-priority defence programmes, is looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead development of advanced electrical systems for next-generation armoured military vehicles. You’ll shape the electrical architecture behind mission‑critical platforms, working across EMC, ECM/EECM protection, communications systems, situational awareness and complex automotive sub‑systems.

You’ll act as the senior link between the Design Manager and the existing electrical design engineer, providing day‑to‑day technical leadership and senior input within the team.

This role combines hands‑on CAD design with real customer‑facing responsibility. You’ll present concepts and critical designs at customer reviews, and represent electrical design independently in meetings, primarily with the MOD. Key responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design process from concept through detailed design, producing specifications and guiding solutions through the full design lifecycle
• Ensure electrical systems meet customer requirements, regulatory standards and operational needs, balancing performance, reliability, manufacturability and through‑life support
• Work closely with engineers, project managers, production, suppliers and customers to translate requirements into validated, verified designs
• Create 3D cable and harness models for incorporation into 2D drawings
• Manage CAD data, BoMs and drawing packs through PLM systems
• Support prototype development, test definition, engineering change control and the legacy fleet

The person

• Hands‑on, demonstrable experience using PTC Creo in a professional design environment, clearly evidenced on your CV. This is a mandatory requirement and candidates without it won’t be considered
• Strong experience in electrical harness design, including 3D cable modelling (Creo Pro/CABLE or equivalent)
• Strong experience in a design office using 3D CAD software, working to BS8888 electrical schematic and harness design standards
• Experience with PLM software, ideally Windchill
• Understanding of configuration control and engineering change management, ideally including Def Stan 05‑57
• Experience in product validation and verification, including environmental requirements
• Confident communicator, comfortable presenting to and representing the business with external stakeholders including the MOD
• Full UK Security Clearance (SC), or eligibility to obtain it through the formal UKSV process

Desirable: defence‑sector electrical design experience, particularly involving defence standards or organisations such as BAE Systems or Lockheed Martin; relevant automotive experience involving vehicle electrical systems, cameras or sensors also considered; familiarity with EMC, ECM/EECM, communications and situational awareness systems; experience managing product lifecycle and supply chain interaction.
