Job summary

83zero Ltd in Peterborough is seeking a Design Engineer to join the Aftertreatment/Emissions Systems team. You will design and develop aftertreatment modules and DEF mixing units for off-highway engines, delivering high-performance solutions for new product introductions and existing platform improvements.

You'll collaborate with global teams and suppliers, lead FMEA activities, and produce technical drawings, reports and validation plans to ensure robust, cost-conscious engineering outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design of internal combustion engine components and systems.
• Knowledge of aftertreatment technology, exhaust systems or emissions modules.
• Experience working within off-highway diesel engine development or a similar engineering environment.
• Experience producing technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal fabrication, moulded components, GD&T and engineering standards.
• Experience with DFMEA, component validation, verification and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with APQP tools and working with external suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Produce technical reports, engineering drawings and functional requirement documentation.
• Support component and system-level validation and verification activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders and global manufacturing sites to deliver engineering projects successfully.

Rate: £47.04 per hour (Inside IR35)

Contract: Contract opportunity

Working Pattern: 5 days per week onsite

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a background in engine systems, mechanical design or emissions technology?

We're looking for a talented Design Engineer to join an established Aftertreatment Engineering team, working on exciting engineering projects across off-highway applications. You'll play a key role in developing innovative engineering solutions for new product introductions (NPI), as well as improving existing engine products and platforms.

This is an opportunity to work on complex technical challenges, collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers, and contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance engine systems.

What You'll Be Doing

What We're Looking For

• Experience in mechanical design and development of internal combustion engine components and systems.

• Knowledge of aftertreatment technology, exhaust systems or emissions modules.

• Experience working within off-highway diesel engine development or a similar engineering environment.

• Knowledge of 3D modelling software, ideally Creo, and Teamcenter data management software.

• Experience producing technical specifications and engineering drawings.

• Understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal fabrication, moulded components, GD&T and engineering standards.

• Experience with DFMEA, component validation, verification and root cause analysis.

• Familiarity with APQP tools and working with external suppliers.

• Strong problem-solving, analytical, planning and communication skills.

An HNC or technical degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering would be beneficial, although relevant practical experience and a strong technical background are equally valued.
