Job summary

83zero Ltd is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join an Aftertreatment and Emissions Systems team in the UK on a contract basis. You will design and develop emissions modules and mounting systems, and support NPI projects across off-highway engine platforms.

Ideal candidates bring strong mechanical design experience, knowledge of aftertreatment technology, and proficiency in Creo with Teamcenter. You will create specifications, drawings and validation plans while collaborating with

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical design of engine components and systems.
• Knowledge of aftertreatment technology, exhaust systems or emissions modules.
• Experience in off-highway diesel engine development or similar engineering environment.
• Experience with 3D modelling software (Creo) and data management (Teamcenter).
• Experience producing technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Familiarity with GD&T, manufacturing processes and engineering standards.
• Experience with DFMEA, component validation, verification and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with APQP tools and working with external suppliers.

Design Engineer – Aftertreatment / Emissions Systems

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Rate: £47.04 per hour (Inside IR35)

The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a background in engine systems, mechanical design or emissions technology?

We're looking for a talented Design Engineer to join an established Aftertreatment Engineering team, working on exciting engineering projects across off-highway applications. You'll play a key role in developing innovative engineering solutions for new product introductions (NPI), as well as improving existing engine products and platforms.

This is an opportunity to work on complex technical challenges, collaborate with global engineering teams and suppliers, and contribute to the development of reliable, high-performance engine systems.

What You'll Be Doing

• Design and develop aftertreatment and emissions modules, including complex mounting systems and DEF mixing units.
• Support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects and updates to existing engine platforms.
• Resolve technical issues arising from manufacturing, quality and field operations, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
• Work closely with suppliers to develop effective, high-quality and cost-conscious engineering solutions.
• Lead Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities, identify technical risks and develop validation plans.
• Produce technical reports, engineering drawings and functional requirement documentation.
• Support component and system-level validation and verification activities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, stakeholders and global manufacturing sites to deliver engineering projects successfully.

What We're Looking For

• Experience in mechanical design and development of internal combustion engine components and systems.
• Knowledge of aftertreatment technology, exhaust systems or emissions modules.
• Experience working within off-highway diesel engine development or a similar engineering environment.
• Knowledge of 3D modelling software, ideally Creo, and Teamcenter data management software.
• Experience producing technical specifications and engineering drawings.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, including metal fabrication, moulded components, GD&T and engineering standards.
• Experience with DFMEA, component validation, verification and root cause analysis.
• Familiarity with APQP tools and working with external suppliers.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical, planning and communication skills.

An HNC or technical degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering would be beneficial, although relevant practical experience and a strong technical background are equally valued.
