Job description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer role within Gencoa Ltd. Based at our offices in Speke, Liverpool, this is a full-time, permanent position, reporting to the Managing Director.

The role involves customising products to meet customer specifications and some new product development, while leading and developing mechanical engineering capabilities across the business. The position entails ownership throughout the job lifecycle: from identifying customer requirements, through design and manufacturing, to post-delivery support.

Working closely with all functions within the business, you will:

  • Foster innovative and lateral thinking to solve problems.
  • Minimise lead times from design to manufacture.
  • Drive improvements in the order processing cycle.

Your Duties and Key Accountabilities:

  • Design high-technology products using original CAD work.
  • Provide technical support for both new and existing products.
  • Standardise design criteria into baseline products for quick response to orders.
  • Oversee production and NPD designs; actively participate in development.
  • Communicate with customers about specific requirements and customisations.
  • Manage projects from order to completion, ensuring timely delivery within budget and meeting customer expectations.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Managing the development process from order placement to design completion.
  • Collaborating with sales, customers, and R&D to finalise designs and lead review meetings.
  • Providing product briefs to the Assembly Workshop and handling technical enquiries.
  • Finalising product models using 3D CAD and managing CAD databases.
  • Generating BOMs for procurement and ensuring supplier lead times are met.

Further duties involve:

  • Improving procedures and processes.
  • Managing engineering change orders and providing engineering support.
  • Approving and signing off on design drawings.
  • Ensuring traceability of projects.
  • Providing post-delivery customer support.
  • Adhering to standards for product safety and quality.
  • Sharing knowledge within the team.

Experience Required:

  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering; a degree or postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Design Engineer.
  • Solid design experience, including new product development and customisation.
  • Experience in standardising product ranges and solution-driven design.

Additional experience in working within a Quality System, vacuum engineering, parametric CAD design, and full product cycle knowledge is desirable.

Skills & Aptitude:

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Practical application-oriented design experience.
  • Innovative thinking and high attention to detail.
  • Background in physics or mathematics is desirable.
  • Experience with Windchill is a plus.

Characteristics:

Strong team player, collaborative, progressive, energetic, innovative, and quality-focused. Excellent communication skills and proactive use of initiative are essential.
