Job summary

Ilmor is seeking a Design Engineer to model and develop powertrain components using CATIA V5, applying manufacturing cost awareness and simulation tools to validate designs.

You will perform 1D engine simulations, steady and transient analyses, and present findings while collaborating with customers and suppliers. Candidates should have 3+ years in powertrain design and a Mechanical/Automotive Engineering degree.

Qualifications

• Three+ years post grad experience in powertrain design.
• Degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering.
• Strong understanding of IC engine principles and powertrain components.

Responsibilities

• Model and draw components using CATIA V5.
• Consider manufacturing processes and costs in design work.
• Perform 1D engine simulations and steady/ transient analyses.
• Validate designs with appropriate tools and techniques.
• Present findings to peers and support with customers/suppliers.
• Manage design projects from concept to production.
• Identify cost reductions and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Collaborate with other departments to optimise project outcomes.

We are now looking for a Design Engineer to join our team!

Role Purpose

• General Responsibilities & Tasks

• Modelling and drawing of components using CAD systems (CATIA V5). Manipulate CAD models and extract geometry required for simulation activities.
• Apply an understanding of Manufacturing processes and set-up costs to the design process whilst meeting customer specification
• Carry out 1D engine simulations. / Carry out steady state and transient simulations of engine components
• Carry out appropriate analysis to validate the design using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Report and present findings to peer group review and support with Customer / Supplier liaison.
• Apply project management techniques to each allocated design project, taking project ownership from concept to production.
• Look for, suggest and contribute to making cost reductions, efficiencies and continuous improvement activities.
• Work closely and communicate effectively with different departments and roles to achieve the best outcome of project and make improvements where identified.

Qualifications & Experience

• At least three years post graduate experience in the field of Powertrain Design
• A good degree in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering
• Strong understanding of engineering principles and IC engine systems
• Proven ability in the design of major powertrain components
• An understanding of engine design, manufacture and assembly
• 3D CAD & FEA stress analysis skills (preferably using Catia V5 and Ansys)
• Good customer and supplier liaison skills
