Design Engineer (Remote)

This challenging and exciting opportunity requires an individual with a good technical background and demonstrable experience in producing foundations or geotechnical-based designs within the power T&D sector, including OHL or steel pylons and towers. Occasional presence at the Midlands office, with the option to work from home.

Due to continued expansion and a strong pipeline of projects, our client is seeking a Design Engineer to support the design aspects across their power T&D division, focusing on high voltage (HV), extra high voltage (EHV), overhead line (OHL) steel lattice towers, and pylons carrying overhead power lines and cables.

The successful candidate must review enquiry documentation to identify key project considerations. The client seeks a high-caliber professional with enthusiasm, drive, and a passion for ground engineering. You should possess strong technical skills, a professional approach, and excellent communication and IT skills.

The Person

• Experience in designing pile and foundation works using relevant software packages.
• Experience in designing various piling techniques, disciplines, and complexities across sectors.
• Ability to work independently and communicate complex technical information clearly, both in writing and verbally.
• Enthusiastic, results-focused, capable of working under pressure and meeting tight deadlines.
• Effective negotiation skills with internal and external stakeholders.

The Role

• Understand and deliver client requirements, liaising with designers, clients, and contractors to optimize engineering solutions.
• Select appropriate piling and foundation techniques based on ground conditions.
• Perform geotechnical analysis using in-house and commercial software, preparing reports for client submission and responding to technical queries.
• Prepare settlement reports for review and participate in meetings.
• Create design documents, drawings, and schedules.
• Be aware of risks related to health & safety, geotechnical, and commercial aspects.
• Support the operational team during installation.
• Produce as-built documentation post-construction.
• Build strong relationships with clients to encourage repeat business.
• Respond to client requests and collaborate with colleagues to gain experience and improve solutions.
• Work collaboratively with other business units to achieve shared goals.
