Location: Glasgow/Edinburgh (Head Office)

Company Overview

MDE Group is supporting a high-growth ICP (Independent Connection Provider) as they expand their internal utilities and design team. This business specialises in delivering high-voltage connections, substations, and contestable works up to and including 33kV across the UK. With a robust pipeline of energy infrastructure projects, the team is now looking to appoint a Design Coordinator to support the design and coordination of complex grid connections.

The Ideal Candidate

We're seeking someone with strong experience in contestable works design and coordination, ideally gained within an ICP, DNO, or IDNO environment. You should have a solid understanding of LV and 11kV networks, G81 specifications, and electrical design software.

You’ll be comfortable leading projects from early design through to handover to delivery teams. This role would suit a highly organised, technically capable individual who enjoys managing multiple interfaces across design, engineering, construction, and stakeholder teams.

You must be confident in dealing with clients, utilities, and internal project teams and capable of managing technical detail and documentation to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce design approval packages and manage the design approval process with DNOs/IDNOs.
  • Interface with and attend meetings involving clients, IDNOs, and DNOs.
  • Coordinate project requirements across civil, electrical, protection & control design teams and third parties.
  • Manage collaboration between clients, sub-contractors, consultants, and design teams.
  • Lead projects from tender through to handover to the delivery team.
  • Support project teams during construction and assist with design change management.
  • Maintain and update the project programme through the design phase.
  • Prepare relevant safety documentation, including Design Risk Assessments and H&S plans.
  • Undertake network demand calculations and design Points of Connection (POCs) from existing networks.
  • Liaise internally to resolve design-related queries.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience within an ICP, IDNO or DNO environment.
  • Strong knowledge of LV/11kV network design.
  • Familiarity with G81 specifications.
  • Proficiency in electrical design software.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Flexible, efficient, and able to adapt to changing tasks.
  • Competent IT user (MS Office and estimating tools).
  • Confident communication skills (written and verbal).

Package:

  • Permanent, full-time role based between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
