Job summary

Deputy Ward Sister / Charge Nurse Band 6

The post holder will function as the principal support to the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse who has continuing responsibility and deputise when required. The Deputy Ward Sister / Charge Nurse will be responsible to the Senior Manager for overseeing the assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care with a person centred approach. The post holder will assist the ward sister in the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care and assist with the functions required in the management of the Iveagh Ward, including the deployment and supervision of registered and unregistered staff and students.

Responsibilities
  • Is responsible for maintaining own professional development & attends mandatory training.
  • Support the Department Ward Sister/Charge Nurse in his/her general management function and in the co-ordination of a high quality service to patients and relatives.
  • Support the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, in the development of all aspects of nursing within the Iveagh Ward setting through the professional development of nursing staff, the implementation of evidence based practice and clinical audit.
  • Keeps up to date with best practice developments in the field of Learning Disability.
Skills and Qualifications
  • Have at least 2 years post registration experience working in a Learning Disability inpatient setting as a band 5 or higher registered nurse.
  • Have at least 1 year post registration experience working with children with a learning disability
