Job summary

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal is seeking a Deputy Ward Manager to lead a mixed Acute ward within the Nursing Department. The role requires active Nursing and Midwifery Council registration and a strong clinical background.

You will work full-time (37.5 hours weekly) on site at Cheadle Royal, ensuring high standards of care, governance and patient safety while supporting staff development and ward leadership.

Qualifications

• At least 18 months to 2 years’ experience post-registration.
• Demonstrable expertise within a clinical speciality.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, families and visitors.
• Supervise and develop nursing staff through CPD, mandatory training and supervision.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal has an opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager with an Active Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council to join our team on our mixed Acute ward.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal, Stockport is an inpatient mental health service for young people and adults. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Wilmslow Road and Cheadle Hulme and East Didsbury railway stations approximately 1–2 miles from the service.

What you’ll be doing

Works as a Senior Nurse, ensuring a safe, therapeutic and inclusive environment for patients, families and visitors while applying relevant policies, statutory requirements and governance standards. Assesses and manages risks, maintains safe staffing and skill mix, and promotes diversity and inclusion. Supervises and develops nursing staff through CPD, mandatory training, appraisal and clinical supervision, addressing performance concerns and supporting junior staff and student nurses. Provides and evaluates therapeutic interventions for individuals with mental health and/or learning disability needs, promotes collaborative problem‑solving and risk management, and contributes effectively to multidisciplinary working. Acts as Named Nurse and Associate Nurse, regularly leads shifts, undertakes agreed ward lead roles, deputises for the Ward Manager when required, and supports recruitment and retention.
