Job summary

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal in Stockport seeks a Deputy Ward Manager to lead the Alder ward. You will hold active NMC registration and have 18–24 months post-registration experience, with a background in a clinical nursing specialty.

The role is full-time, 37.5 hours per week, on-site at Cheadle Royal. As Deputy Ward Manager you will deputise for the Ward Manager, lead shifts, supervise staff, manage risk, and uphold governance standards while supporting recruitment and staff development

Qualifications

• Active Nursing & Midwifery Council registration is required.
• 18–24 months post-registration experience is essential.
• Demonstrable clinical expertise in a nursing specialty.

Responsibilities

• Lead shifts as Senior Nurse and deputise for the Ward Manager.
• supervise nursing staff through CPD, mandatory training, appraisal and supervision.
• Assess and manage risks; maintain safe staffing and skill mix; promote diversity and inclusion.
• Deliver therapeutic interventions for mental health care and participate in multidisciplinary meetings.
• Support recruitment, retention and governance in line with standards.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal has an opportunity for a Deputy Ward Manager with an Active Registration with the Nursing Midwifery Council to join our team on our mixed Acute ward.

Priory Hospital Cheadle Royal, Stockport is an inpatient mental health service for young people and adults. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along Wilmslow Road and Cheadle Hulme and East Didsbury railway stations approximately 1–2 miles from the service.

What you'll be doing

Works as a Senior Nurse, ensuring a safe, therapeutic and inclusive environment for patients, families and visitors while applying relevant policies, statutory requirements and governance standards. Assesses and manages risks, maintains safe staffing and skill mix, and promotes diversity and inclusion. Supervises and develops nursing staff through CPD, mandatory training, appraisal and clinical supervision, addressing performance concerns and supporting junior staff and student nurses. Provides and evaluates therapeutic interventions for individuals with mental health and/or learning disability needs, promotes collaborative problem-solving and risk management, and contributes effectively to multidisciplinary working. Acts as Named Nurse and Associate Nurse, regularly leads shifts, undertakes agreed ward lead roles, deputises for the Ward Manager when required, and supports recruitment and retention.
