Job summary

West Walsall Academy (E-ACT) invites applications for a Deputy SENCO to support strategic SEND provision, work with students, families and staff, and ensure high-quality support for pupils with additional needs.

We seek a proactive leader with experience in interventions, collaboration with external agencies and a strong understanding of SEND practices. This is a permanent, full-time post with a 37-hour week across 40 weeks per year.

Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 5-9 or equivalent with HLTA standards or equivalent.
  • Strong knowledge of SEND Code of Practice and how pupils learn with SEND needs.
  • Experience delivering effective interventions and working with external agencies.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and data interpretation skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support the SENCO in leading and coordinating SEND provision and remove barriers to learning.
  • Lead targeted intervention programmes to improve outcomes and wellbeing.
  • Collaborate with staff to promote inclusive classroom practice and provide SEND guidance.
  • Maintain SEND records, provision maps and student data to monitor impact.
  • Engage with families and external agencies to support reviews and multi-agency plans.

We are looking to appoint a Deputy SENCO who will support the strategic development of SEND provision, work closely with students, families and staff, and help ensure that all pupils with additional needs receive high-quality support to achieve their full potential.

Keyresponsibilities:
  • Support the SENCO in leading and coordinating provision for students with SEND, ensuring barriers to learning are identified and effectively addressed.
  • Lead, monitor and evaluate targeted intervention programmes to improve outcomes, progress and wellbeing for students with additional needs.
  • Work closely with teaching staff to promote inclusive classroom practice and provide guidance on effective SEND strategies and the graduated approach to support.
  • Maintain accurate SEND records, provision maps and student data, using assessment information to inform interventions and monitor impact.
  • Build positive relationships with students, families and external agencies, contributing to reviews, meetings and multi-agency support plans to ensure every student receives the support they need.

Pay range:

SCP 22-27 £31,402.28 - £35,614.99 (FTE: £34,811.00 - £39,481.00)

37 hours per week, 40 weeks per year

Qualificationsand Skills:
  • GCSE Grade 5-9 (or equivalent) in English and Maths, with Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) standards or equivalent qualifications and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, alongside a sound understanding of how children learn and strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
  • Experience of delivering effective interventions, working with external agencies and building successful partnerships with parents, carers and school staff.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret student data, maintain accurate records and prioritise workloads effectively.
