Guardian News and Media Limited in London is seeking a deputy news graphics editor to commission, create and supervise the delivery of impactful graphics that explain the news daily across digital platforms.

You will lead with editors and data journalists to develop visual formats, from charts to illustrated explainers, and manage workloads while upholding rigorous journalistic standards.

Qualifications

• Portfolio showing data-driven graphics across platforms.
• Experience working at pace in breaking news environments.
• Knowledge of tools and techniques for news graphics, data and cartography.
• Ability to conceptualise graphics and innovate in visual formats.

Responsibilities

• Anticipate visuals that add value to emerging stories.
• Interpret requests to create briefs for graphic artists under supervision.
• Source data, interrogate data sets and analyze for graphics.
• Source satellite imagery and reference material for explainer diagrams.
• Stay on top of short-term and medium-term projects and prioritise impactful stories.
• Lead liaising with editors, data and multimedia journalists to produce visual formats.
• Deputise for the graphics news editor when needed and manage workloads.
• Collaborate with journalists to produce visual guides and other formats.
• Define and defend styles for graphics ensuring journalistic integrity.
• Share skills by running mini-workshops for the team.
