Job summary

Cambian Group is seeking a Deputy Manager based in Wem to help shape futures for young people aged 8-18. You’ll support the manager, supervise staff, and ensure high standards of care in a challenging but rewarding environment.

You will deputise in the Registered Manager's absence, lead on safeguarding, and work with professionals to achieve optimum outcomes. A commitment to quality care and team supervision is essential.

Qualifications

  • NVQ 3 in caring for Children and Young People (or equivalent).
  • Understanding of Ofsted framework (SCCIF).
  • 12 months experience in residential setting with young people with challenging behaviour including supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of the Children Act and other relevant legislation.
  • Ability to manage teams effectively and supervise staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assign a key worker to each young person and ensure placement plans are followed.
  • Support and deputise for the Registered Manager in absence.
  • Attend childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people.
  • Undertake direct work with young people and act as role model.
  • Assist in developing systems for youth feedback on care quality.
  • Assist the Registered Manager in implementing all aspects of the Statement of Purpose.
  • Contribute to changes with frontline staff to continually improve services and standards.
  • Deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.
  • Support on/off rota to ensure adequate staffing according to needs.
  • Ensure resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are maintained.

Job description

Main Purpose of the Job

To assist the manager in achieving the aims and objectives of the statement of purpose. To deputise in the absence of the registered manager. To support and manage the staff to enable them to meet the needs of the children and young people. To undertake direct work with children and young people as appropriate. To be the responsible person in managing child protection concerns and complaints. To work in partnership with other professionals to achieve optimum outcomes for young people. To offer supervisions and support to senior staff in line with care quality standards and Children's Homes Regulations 2015.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • You'll be ensuring that each young person has an allocated key worker
  • Ensuring that each member of staff is aware of each child's placement plan and their responsibilities for its implementation
  • Attending childcare reviews and planning meetings to provide information and achieve best outcomes for young people
  • Undertaking direct work with young people and acting as an appropriate role model
  • Assist in developing systems in which young people are consulted about the quality of care they receive
  • To assist the Registered Manager in the implementation of all aspects of the Statement of Purpose
  • Contribute to the devising, implementing and evaluation of changes with the involvement of front line staff to continually improve services, systems and standards, in conjunction with the Registered Manager and the Senior Management team
  • To deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager
  • To support on and off the rota to ensure adequate staffing according to the needs of young people
  • To ensure that resources are allocated appropriately and financial records are accurately maintained

New staff must be comfortable using an electronic care recording system on a daily basis to document, monitor, and update children and young people's records accurately. Experience with Clearcare is an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be provided. However, all staff are expected to confidently use digital systems as part of their day-to-day role.
