Job summary

Portman Recruitment is representing a four-bed EBD children's home in Corby seeking a Deputy Manager to join the leadership team. You will support the Registered Manager with day-to-day running, ensuring a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for children and young people.

The role requires leading shifts, safeguarding expertise, and driving development towards a Level 5 leadership qualification with progression to Registered Manager. A full UK driving licence is essential.

Qualifications

• At least two years' experience within a children's residential home.
• Experience at Senior Residential Support Worker or Deputy Manager level.
• NVQ Level 3 or Level 4 in Children and Young People or Residential Childcare.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge and Ofsted regulations.
• Experience supporting staff, leading shifts, and budgeting.
• Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Support the Registered Manager with daily operation of the home.
• Lead shifts and guide the residential care team.
• Maintain safeguarding and child-centred care standards.
• Support children with emotional/behavioural needs and trauma-informed approaches.
• Supervise, mentor and reflect with staff; assist with rotas and budgets.
• Ensure care plans, risk assessments and records are up to date.
• Ensure Ofsted compliance and deputise for the Registered Manager when needed.

Deputy Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Salary: £33,360, rising to £35,577 per annum, plus additional sleep-in payments
Hours: 39 hours per week
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Home: Four-bed EBD children's home

The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced and committed Deputy Manager to join the leadership team within a four-bed residential home supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

This opportunity would suit an established Deputy Manager or an experienced Senior Residential Support Worker who is ready to progress.

You will support the Registered Manager with the effective day-to-day running of the home, helping to provide a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment in which children and young people can achieve positive outcomes.

The role involves working long-day shifts with occasional sleep-ins. A full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential.

Key Responsibilities

• Supporting the Registered Manager with the daily operation of the home
• Leading shifts and providing guidance to the residential care team
• Maintaining high standards of safeguarding and child-centred care
• Supporting children and young people with emotional and behavioural needs
• Promoting therapeutic, trauma-informed approaches that reduce the need for restraint
• Supporting staff through supervision, mentoring and reflective practice
• Assisting with rotas, budgets and the effective use of resources
• Ensuring care plans, risk assessments and records remain accurate and up to date
• Maintaining compliance with Ofsted regulations and quality standards
• Deputising for the Registered Manager when required
• Contributing ideas and supporting the continued development of the home

Requirements

Applicants must have:

• At least two years' experience within a children's residential home
• Experience at Senior Residential Support Worker or Deputy Manager level
• An NVQ Level 3 or Level 4 qualification in Children and Young People or Residential Childcare
• Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures and Ofsted regulations
• Experience supporting staff and leading shifts
• Experience assisting with rotas and budgets
• A full UK driving licence
• Access to their own vehicle
• The flexibility to work long-day shifts and occasional sleep-ins
