Job summary

Portland Charity is seeking an experienced Deputy Health and Safety Manager to join its small, friendly team. You will work with the Area H&S Manager to ensure compliance, drive improvements, and lead training across the charity’s campuses and sites.

The role requires demonstrable H&S experience, ability to manage risk assessments, and strong communication. It offers a collaborative environment with opportunities for professional growth and multi-site travel.

Qualifications

• Certified Member of IOSH
• Legionella Management for Responsible Persons
• English, Maths, ICT
• Full driving licence
• Desirable: IFSM membership
• Nebosh National Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety

Responsibilities

• Deputise for the Area Health and Safety Manager during absences
• Provide expert health and safety advice and training to staff
• Create and manage risk assessments
• Monitor, analyse and report on health and safety data
• Act as Health and Safety competent person for Portland Charity
• Lead staff health and safety training including first aid and fire warden training
• Support external inspections and audits
• Collaborate with Estates on compliance matters
• Ensure vehicle licensing and training compliance
• Travel across multiple sites as required
