Job Focus

As Deputy Headteacher, you will lead an experienced and well-resourced area of the academy, ensuring high standards are achieved by all. You will also serve as the Designated Safeguarding Lead, supported by a full-time Operational Safeguarding Lead and Deputy.

We are looking for a candidate who:

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will promote and uphold the Academy’s Christian ethos and participate in monitoring and evaluation systems to achieve the Academy’s vision and mission.

Core Responsibilities & Tasks

  • Provide strategic direction for behaviour and attitudes.
  • Lead attendance initiatives to ensure high attendance rates.
  • Act as the Designated Senior Person for safeguarding, child protection, and prevent duties.
  • Oversee welfare and support for Looked After Children.
  • Lead the Educational Visits Coordinator (EVC) and manage relevant systems.
  • Engage with agencies to support student welfare.
  • Conduct the annual 175 audit to ensure compliance.
  • Coordinate Section 19 and social inclusion initiatives.
  • Manage strategies for managed moves and the Fair Access Protocol.
  • Develop and implement anti-bullying strategies.
  • Oversee policies on suspensions and exclusions.
  • Lead initiatives for alternative provision and off-site education.
  • Coordinate Governor Behaviour Panels and Team Around the Child meetings.
  • Oversee the rewards system to motivate students.
  • Act as the senior mental health lead.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Personal and Professional Development.
  • Monitor and report on Governors’ KPIs.
  • Provide operational leadership and manage the Academy alongside the Headteacher.
  • Assist in leadership and management, including in the Headteacher’s absence.
  • Lead and manage significant areas of the Academy.
  • Monitor and evaluate policy implementation.
  • Manage staff and resources effectively.
  • Ensure high-quality education and improved standards.
  • Contribute to the Academy improvement plan.
  • Evaluate the Academy’s performance regularly.
  • Maintain high expectations for attendance and punctuality.
  • Create a safe, calm, and well-ordered environment promoting exemplary behaviour.
  • Foster a culture of confident, self-assured learners with positive attitudes.
  • Encourage student engagement for future readiness.
  • Implement strategies to challenge prejudice and prevent bullying.
  • Work with the Headteacher to monitor and improve teaching quality and student achievement.

Personal and Professional Development

  • Stay informed about new research and practices from bodies like DFE, Ofsted, NCSL, SSAT.
  • Review personal practice regularly, set targets, and pursue development.
  • Manage workload to maintain work/life balance.
