Progress Schools is seeking a dynamic and creative Deputy Head of School to join our alternative education community. If you're passionate about fostering a love for learning, embracing diversity, and encouraging students to think beyond the traditional, we want to hear from you!

Progress Schools is part of The Progress Group, which comprises six business units dedicated to innovating, influencing, and inspiring through high-quality education and training. Progress Schools is a national group of 13 independent OFSTED-regulated schools.

At Progress Schools - Northampton, we support approximately 35 pupils, providing opportunities for children who need a nurturing, encouraging, and supportive environment, especially those reintegrating into mainstream settings. The school has a core team including the Head of School, up to seven teachers, and five support staff, with additional support from regional and national staff.

What we are looking for:
Qualifications:
  • Hold a teaching qualification (QTS/QTLS)
  • NPQSL and/or NPQH (desirable)
  • Degree or equivalent
  • Maths and English to at least level 2
  • Specialist teaching qualification in a chosen subject (desirable)
Management & Organization Skills:
  • A highly motivated, energetic, and enthusiastic person who is approachable, promotes positive relationships, and has high expectations. Ability to effectively manage student discipline and demonstrate a commitment to high-quality pastoral care.
Partnership & Community Engagement:
  • Proven experience working collaboratively with parents, community organizations, and stakeholders to support students with diverse and challenging needs.
Knowledge:
  • Understanding of equality of opportunity, safeguarding, child protection, and inclusion issues, and how to address them effectively in schools with high levels of vulnerable children.
Problem-Solving:
  • Ability to quickly identify and address challenges faced by students, ensuring appropriate support for their individual needs.
Communication:
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences including children, parents, carers, governors, and colleagues.
Experience:
  • Experience teaching across the secondary age range, with a proven track record as a creative and adaptable Head of SEN who inspires and motivates students. Familiarity with virtual learning environments is desirable.

  • A positive role model who sets high expectations for student behavior and outcomes, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment in alternative education.
