Job summary

Associated British Ports invites applications for a senior marine leadership role overseeing the Humber Estuary. You will direct pilotage operations, ensure statutory harbour authority functions, and drive safety, risk management, and operational excellence across a complex maritime environment.

You will lead a skilled team of pilots and marine professionals, liaising with VTS, operators and regulators to guarantee safe navigation and efficient marine services.

Qualifications

• Extensive operational experience in pilotage operations management and port management.
• Knowledge of Port Marine Safety Code and related legislation.
• Proven leadership and people management experience.
• Ability to balance commercial and operational requirements while delivering safe, high-quality marine services.

Responsibilities

• Lead the safe and efficient delivery of pilotage services across the Humber Estuary.
• Deputise for the Harbour Master and perform Statutory Harbour Authority functions as required.
• Support compliance with safety codes and health, safety, security and environmental legislation.
• Maintain and continually improve marine safety management systems.
• Lead, mentor, and develop pilots and marine personnel.
• Act as Deputy Port Facility Security Officer as required.
• Collaborate with Vessel Traffic Services, terminal operators, ship operators and stakeholders to ensure safe operations.
• Provide input on planning, development, and delivery of marine projects.
• Lead marine incident investigations and emergency response.
• Engage with MCA, MAIB, HSE and other regulators.
• Support marine risk management, audits, and statutory reporting.
