Job summary

Bury Council is seeking a Deputy Catering Manager to lead the school catering service across sites in Greater Manchester. You will oversee day-to-day operations, maintain high standards of food safety, and support training and staff development.

The role requires supervisory experience in catering, effective communication, and the ability to build strong relationships with school partners. NVQ levels 1 and 2 in Food Production and Cookery or equivalent are required, along with Basic Food Safety.

About the role

Deputy Catering Manager

This is your opportunity to join our customer-focussed team as the Council seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of Bury’s younger generation. As part of our busy catering service, you’ll get full training and we will provide you with opportunities to develop further within the service including a range of apprenticeships.

We are looking for candidates who have experience in catering services and relevant experience at a supervisory level or looking for their next step up the ladder. You will need to be able to communicate effectively, motivate and lead the team. You will also need to develop and improve relationships with the Head Teacher, Business Manager and the rest of the school team.

You need to have an NVQ Level 1 and 2 in Food Production and Cookery or an equivalent qualification in Food Preparation and Cooking and Basic Food Safety.

Please note that dependant on service cover, you may be required to move locations. You will also be required to work 2 cleaning days over August.
