Qualifications

• Experience as a senior carer, team leader or deputy manager in elderly or dementia care.
• NVQ/RQF Level 3 in Health and Social Care is essential; Level 5 is desirable.
• Knowledge of CQC regulations, safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act (DoLS).
• Ability to plan, audit and manage medications.
• Warm, supportive leadership and clear communication.
• Calm under pressure and well organised.
• Passion for improving the lives of older people with dementia.

Responsibilities

• Support the Registered Manager day-to-day and deputise as needed.
• Lead, supervise and motivate care staff, including rotas, supervisions and training.
• Oversee care planning, risk assessments and reviews ensuring person-centred care.
• Promote best practice in dementia care with meaningful activities and positive behaviour support.
• Monitor medication management, audits and record-keeping.
• Help ensure CQC standards and inspection readiness.
• Build strong relationships with residents, families, GPs and other professionals.
• Handle safeguarding concerns, incidents and complaints following policy.
• Carry out pre-admission assessments and help new residents settle in.
• Occasionally work hands-on shifts leading by example.

Are you an experienced senior carer or deputy manager looking for your next step in dementia care? A well-regarded residential care home in St Albans is looking for a Deputy Care Manager to support the Registered Manager in delivering person-centred care to older people, including those living with dementia.

The role

You will work alongside the Registered Manager to lead the care team day to day, making sure every resident receives safe, compassionate and dignified care. You will step up to run the home in the manager's absence, and you will play a key part in maintaining high standards and CQC compliance.

About you

• Confident with care planning, audits and medication management
• A warm, supportive leader who can motivate a team and hold them to high standards
• Calm under pressure, well organised and a clear communicator
