As far back as 1755, there is strong evidence to suggest that one of the earliest schools in the Parish was situated close to the old Avonbank works in Millheugh. This school was known as a 'Penny School', where parents paid one penny a year for their children's education.
Following the Education (Scotland) Act of 1872, several new schools were built in Larkhall, including Glengowan Primary School on Millheugh Brae.
Glengowan Primary remained in the Millheugh building until 1974, when it was demolished. The school then moved to an imposing red sandstone building on Academy Street, built in 1866, previously used as a primary school, Union Street Primary, and part of Larkhall Academy.
On January 24, 2012, our new state-of-the-art building opened, providing an enhanced learning environment aligned with the Curriculum for Excellence. The building was officially opened by Councillor Lesley McDonald on October 10, 2013.
