Depute Head Teacher, Castlebay Secondary School (1685)

35 hours per week, Permanent Post

£63,879 per annum (Point 3 of the DHT/HT Scale) plus £2,742 Distant Islands Allowance per annum


The role of the Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, deputise for the Headteacher in the conduct of the school's affairs. The Depute must work closely with the Headteacher in all aspects of school life, be capable of making decisions in their absence, and take a lead role in assigned tasks related to the development priorities of the school.

Outline of DHT Duties
  1. Responsibility for the leadership, management, and strategic direction of the school.
  2. Responsibility for school policy on pupil behaviour management.
  3. Management of all staff, promoting high expectations and standards, reviewing professional needs and performance, and supporting professional development.
  4. Responsibility for curriculum development, learning, teaching, and meeting learners' needs.
  5. Responsibility for improvement planning and quality assurance.
  6. Management and development of a bilingual curriculum in line with national and local priorities.
  7. Advising the Parent Council and participating in staff recruitment and selection.
  8. Working collaboratively with parents, professionals, agencies, and other schools.
  9. Managing health and safety within the school premises.
  10. Ensuring compliance with the Council's Non-Smoking at Work policy.
  11. Performing any other duties necessary for the efficiency and effectiveness of the service.

The GTCS Standard for Headship applies to these duties.

Key Responsibility Areas

Applicants must have experience in a promoted role at Principal Teacher level or above.

Essential qualifications include a University Degree, certification from a Teacher Education Institution or College Diploma for Teaching, and GTC Scotland Registration.

This position requires membership of the PVG Scheme for regulated work with children.

This is a full-time, permanent role with a salary aligned with current regulations plus a £2,859 Distant Islands Allowance.
