Job summary

Swansea Bay University Health Board is seeking a qualified Dental Nurse to support Foundation Dentists and Trainers, ensuring high quality dental care and effective multi-disciplinary clinic maintenance with strong cross infection control.

The post includes managing clinical time, appointments, prioritisation, and when not in surgeries, providing administrative support. Applicants must have UK registration and relevant qualifications; Welsh language skills are desirable.

Job summary

Providing support and assistance for the Foundation Dentists and Trainers in providing high quality dental care to patients, and be responsible for the effective, efficient preparation and maintenance of a multi-disciplinary dental clinic, maintaining a high level of cross infection control in all clinical areas.

Manage clinical time, including clinical appointments, prioritisation and management.

When not assisting in the surgeries nurses are expected to provide administrative support.

Nurses are expected to be able to carry out their duties without direct supervision.

Advice, triage and prioritise dental emergency patients to ensure they receive the most appropriate care, within the dental single point of access.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge

• N.V.Q. level 3, CertHE in Dental Nursing. Understanding of customer care issues
• Understanding of Data Protection
• Understanding, acceptance and adherence to the need for confidentiality
• Registration with the General Dental Council
• Significant Trained Dental Nurse experience
• Experience in working with Foundation Dentist
• Experience in mentoring Student Dental Nurses

Essential Aptitude and abilities

• Adhere to and can demonstrate SBU Values & Behaviours
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities
• Excellent communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills
• Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
