Job summary

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a highly organised Electoral & Democratic Services Assistant to help plan and deliver statutory elections during 2027 and 2028, with accuracy and strong customer service as priorities. This role provides essential admin support for governance changes, including Policy and Scrutiny, and offers a fast-paced environment where confidentiality and adaptability are important.

Some evening/weekend work is expected.

Qualifications

• Excellent organisational and administrative skills with the ability to work accurately under pressure.
• Confident communicator with strong customer service skills.
• Flexible, proactive and able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and demands.
• Experience in electoral services or local government is advantageous but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Providing administrative support for the planning and delivery of elections.
• Assisting with postal voting processes, election logistics and staffing coordination.
• Handling telephone and email enquiries from electors, councillors and stakeholders.
• Supporting the management of election documentation and electoral data.
• Providing administrative support for new governance arrangements, including Policy and Scrutiny functions.
• Assisting the team during peak workload periods, including elections and school appeals.
