Job summary

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Senior Midwife to join the Delivery Suite Co-ordination team at Sunderland Royal Hospital. The role focuses on day-to-day management and clinical leadership of the midwifery team within labour ward to deliver safe, evidence-based care.

The post requires a minimum of 3 years post-registration experience, with extensive acute settings, and current NMC registration.

• Evidence of competency in relation to midwifery practices appropriate to the post.

Responsibilities

• To manage the shift and have clinical responsibility for the area in line with the escalation policy to maintain patient safety and staff wellbeing.
• To provide clinical midwifery care to women within the Maternity services.
• To be an expert Clinical role model.
• To provide expert leadership and clinical advice to the Maternity Team.
• To develop an environment which supports the value of Midwifery Care.
• To act as an advocate for the women receiving care.
• They must deliver high quality midwifery care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to provide the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
• They will act as a champion for professional accountability and standards, ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and Trust Policy.
• Ensure environmental standards and cleanliness of the ward/department/ community team are maintained in line with Trust and National standards.
• Support and contribute to the development of patient care and midwifery practice within the Directorate. Supervising junior staff. Contribute to Trust wide projects as required.
• Ensure effective management of staff on shift and ensure they are supported in performing to their full potential. Ensure junior staff have appropriate support and supervision and are appropriately assessed.
• Participate in a 365 day 24/7 roster
• Participate in the acute Midwifery on call roster
