Job summary

CHROMA RECRUITMENT is seeking a Head of Operations (Delivery) in Chelmsford for a fast-growing software and information management business. You will lead the Delivery team, owning day-to-day operations across around 200 projects with 6 direct reports and roughly 40 more in the wider team.

This is the first senior role, requiring strong leadership, budget ownership, and experience with ISO 19650 and BIM. The role is hybrid, with 2–3 days in the office and SC clearance as part of the requirements.

Qualifications

• Construction or built environment background.
• Experience leading a multi-disciplinary delivery or operations team, including managing managers.
• Track record of running multiple projects to time, quality and budget.
• Real commercial awareness, with budgets, forecasting and margin.
• Working knowledge of ISO 19650 and BIM, though delivery not performed by you.
• Confidence with senior clients and ability to hold your ground.
• Strong people leader who holds the team to account.
• Comfortable with systems and reporting tools.

Responsibilities

• Running the delivery rhythm: portfolio reviews, chasing progress with project leads and ensuring on-time delivery, quality, and margin.
• Stepping in on at-risk projects and communicating with clients when it matters.
• Planning resource and capacity, prioritising and allocating the right people to the right jobs.
• Being the senior voice for key clients and pushing back on scope creep.
• Owning budgets, forecasting and project margin alongside Finance.
• Building processes, KPIs and reporting to scale the team.
• Leading, coaching and developing the team, including career paths and training.
• Advancing automation and AI adoption within the team and promoting it to staff.
• Collaborating with Product and Development on the roadmap and new product launches.
