Job summary

Ex-Mil Recruitment Ltd is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our defence and secure technology team. This hybrid role combines remote work with Midlands-based collaboration and on-site engagement in Leicester.

You will develop software solutions, participate in Agile ceremonies, write technical designs and documentation, mentor teammates, support secure delivery, and help evolve engineering practices.

Qualifications

• 3+ years civilian/commercial software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience with Linux and Bash.
• Degree or equivalent in Software Engineering or related discipline is desirable.
• Existing SC clearance is highly desirable.
• Must be eligible and willing to obtain and maintain SC clearance where required.
• Desirable: Terraform.
• Desirable: Ansible.
• Desirable: Kubernetes / K8s.
• Desirable: Helm.
• Desirable: Docker.
• Desirable: Jenkins.
• Desirable: R&D project experience.
• Desirable: Experience working within secure or Defence environments.

Responsibilities

• Develop and code software solutions.
• Work within Agile teams and take an active role in sprint planning, refinement, and retrospectives.
• Write technical and design documentation.
• Work within DevOps environments and associated tooling.
• Investigate and resolve complex customer issues, including third-line support.
• Translate customer and technical requirements into practical solutions.
• Support project planning, estimation, and technical delivery.
• Research new technologies and improve engineering practices.
• Provide technical input to wider business functions.
• Mentor and support colleagues within the engineering team.
