Defence Estimator for MoD Projects

Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking an Estimator to join its Defence Estimating team in the UK, delivering cost models for MoD programmes and supporting decision making with detailed estimates. You will produce estimates from order of magnitude to detailed levels and contribute to project controls across major defence projects.

Candidates should have defence estimating experience, strong MS Office skills, and the ability to work in a client‑facing environment.

Qualifications

• Qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering.
• Experience of working in the Defence sector.
• Demonstrable and proven experience in: Compilation, assurance and delivery of complex estimates and cost models.
• Working within an integrated Project Controls team.
• Public sector projects.
• Excellent and flexible skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience of working in a client‑facing environment.
• Preferred: Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or education to degree level.
• Experience in early stage estimating in complex/major Defence Infrastructure programmes.
• Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software packages.

Responsibilities

• Production of accurate and comprehensive estimates for projects in a timely and efficient manner.
• Control and management of the estimating process at project level.
• Production of estimates without management or supervision.
• Able to work as part of a team or as an individual with limited supervision.
• Supporting development and promotion of estimating good practice within Turner & Townsend.
• Representing Turner & Townsend within client organisations to promote estimating good practice.
• Assisting in the achievement of departmental objectives.
• Staying abreast of developments within own technical area of expertise to provide best practice advice.
