Job summary

Turner & Townsend is seeking a Senior Estimator with Defence estimating experience to deliver accurate cost estimates for high-profile programmes. You will contribute to estimating strategy, support bids, and mentor staff within a dynamic UK Estimating team.

The role requires clear communication with clients and stakeholders, and will involve working across major Defence infrastructure projects in the UK. MoD clearance and national security considerations apply.

Qualifications

Qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering.
Experience of working in the Defence sector.
Demonstrable delivery of complex estimates and cost models.
Experience in an integrated Project Controls environment.
Public sector project experience.
Strong MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Strong written and verbal client-facing communication.

Responsibilities

Lead the production of accurate estimates and cost models for projects/programmes.
Promote estimating best practice within the organisation.
Support bids and development of departmental objectives.
Mentor junior staff and manage team activities where appropriate.
Stay updated on Defence estimating developments to provide expert guidance.

Turner & Townsend is one of the leading consultancy providers to the Infrastructure and Defence sectors and we have a thriving UK Estimating team making the difference for a large number of clients both in the UK and Overseas. We are now looking for talented Senior Estimators with proven Defence estimating experience to work with a number of our key Defence sector clients.

Our team deliver a wide range of estimating outputs for our clients, to support their decision making, including:

Estimate / cost model production (from Order of Magnitude through to detailed estimates)
Estimating assurance
Major programmes estimating strategy
Commercial data & benchmarking

As a Senior Estimator within the Estimating team at Turner & Townsend you will be responsible for:

Supporting leadership or managing the production of accurate and comprehensive estimates for projects/programmes
Playing a supporting role in the development and promotion of estimating good practice within Turner & Townsend;
Playing a supporting role in the achievement of departmental objectives;
Supporting bids for new work
Acting as a role model for less experienced staff
Staff management (where appropriate)
Supporting development and promotion of estimating best practice;
Staying abreast of developments within own technical area of expertise to be able to give best practice advice in line with business objectives;
Actively helping the development of Defence Estimating across the business

Qualifications

Essential:

Qualification in Estimating, Quantity Surveying or Cost Engineering
Experience of working in the Defence sector
Demonstrable and proven experience in:
Compilation, assurance and delivery of complex estimates and cost models
Working within an integrated Project Controls team
Public sector projects
Excellent and flexible skills in Microsoft Office Suite (MS Excel, Work, PowerPoint)
Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience of working in a client-facing environment

Preferred:

Membership of a relevant professional body with chartered status and/or educated to degree level
Experience in early stage estimating in complex / major Defence Infrastructure programmes
Familiarity with industry-standard estimating software packages
