Job summary

Fawkes & Reece London is seeking an ambitious/experienced Design Manager for its Southampton office to lead the design process on a 20m defence scheme near Portsmouth. Initially in preconstruction, you will guide detailed design and value engineering before site delivery over 18 months.

The role requires coordinating consultants, engaging with authorities, and ensuring buildability and budget compliance throughout procurement and construction phases.

Qualifications

• Experience in refurbishment and new build works in live environments
• Experience in preconstruction phase and design coordination
• Proven track record delivering schemes on time and to budget

Responsibilities

• Lead design development for projects, packages and sections of works
• Chair design team meetings and manage consultant design team
• Liaise with clients, end users and specialist sub-contract design teams
• Agree information required schedules and ensure key dates are met
• Interact with local authorities for planning permission and conditions discharge
• Review construction design information for buildability and compliance
• Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimisation
• Resolve issues proactively and manage timely delivery of design information
