PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
- We are recruiting for an Asset Recovery Paralegal. The role sits within our Asset Recovery Team who are embedded specialist paralegals sitting within the wider Disputes Team. They provide a full debt recovery service to Addleshaw Goddard's clients and the firm.
- This is a busy role with a high case load of commercial debt recovery matters across a broad range of sectors.
THE TEAM
- Our team is made up of 4 embedded specialist paralegals working as an integral part of our wider Disputes team, enabling us to quickly draw on litigation expertise if matters become contentious.
- They have extensive experience across a broad range of sectors and work collaboratively with clients to deliver best practice debt recovery.
- We act for a broad range of businesses including commercial utility providers, land and estate management service providers, private and RSL factoring organisations, invoice finance providers, specialist lenders, environmental and marine service providers, wholesale pharmaceutical suppliers.
- The position has arisen following development and progression of long standing member of the team who joined the firm as as a legal apprentice, undertook paralegal certification, Scots law degree followed by diploma. This team member and colleague is embarking on an internal traineeship with Addleshaw Goddard with the full support of the team and the wider firm.
What To Expect In This Role
- Processing new instructions in respect of debt recovery actions from inception to conclusion from initial conflict checks, issuing demand letters to enforcement.
- Raising and serving Court actions (Simple Procedure, Summary and Ordinary Cause Court actions) ensuring that instructions are lodged within timescales.
- Updating Case Management system and clients appropriately.
- Registration of Notices of Potential Liability for Costs, Inhibitions and relevant Discharge process .
- Insolvency related work including issuing Statutory Demands, preparing Liquidation and Sequestration Petitions.
- Preparing Minutes of Agreement outlining settlement terms and arranging registration for preservation and execution.
- Reporting to clients on volume and case by case basis.
- Liaising with external third parties including sheriff officers, insolvency practitioners, debtor representatives and legal agents.
- Liaising with litigation fee earners when matters become contentious.
- Liaising with internal teams (cashiers and billing).
- Preparing court instructions.
- Diary management.
- General admin processes; closure of files.
YOUR AREAS OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
To Be Successful In This Role, What Are The
- Previous experience working in a debt recovery environment preferred.
- Effective personal, organisational and time management skills, and the ability to juggle multiple demands.
- Experience of dealing with case management systems; civil online; scotlis searches; AIB searches.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrating an ability to communicate with colleagues and third parties at all levels.
- Experience of making initial debt recovery recommendations to clients in accordance with recovery prospects.
- The ability to work to tight timescales with a sense of urgency.
- An interest in, or experience of, using technology to deliver work.
- An interest in undertaking paralegal certification relevant to the role.
