A Midlands-based Local Authority is seeking a Locum Debt Recovery Lawyer for an initial 6-month contract, primarily remote. The successful candidate will manage a caseload involving recovery of residential and domiciliary care debts, providing legal advice and undertaking court actions as required. This role is suited for qualified legal professionals with experience in debt recovery within Local Authorities.

Duration:6 months initial contract with the likelihood of extension thereafter
Working Pattern:Ideally full time however candidates with part time availability possessing relevant experience will also be considered
Working Arrangement:Predominantly Remote Working – attending court/office on occasion
Hourly Rate:£50-55 per hour Umbrella / can accommodate Outside IR35
Skill level:Qualified Lawyer (Solicitors, Barristers and highly experienced CILEX professionals)
The ideal candidate will have experience of working within a Local Authority with a strong working knowledge of Debt Recovery matters including Adult Social Care debts. The role will involve a full caseload of recovery of residential and domiciliary care fees from those receiving care, some of whom may lack capacity, and from the estates of deceased customers.
Duties may include:
• Providing Debt Recovery advice as required and managing a full and varied case load of these types of Debt including high value Debts
• Completing Debt Recovery negotiations in a wide range of highly complex statutory Debt Recovery cases
• Attendance at regular client review meetings to monitor progress of Debt Recovery and advising on prospects of success, write offs, statutory limitation periods, procedural advice, costs liability as required to allow the Council to make decisions and achieve legally sound solutions
• Issuing court proceedings to recover Debts, drafting court documents and undertaking enforcement proceedings against judgment debtors
