Job summary

Sanderson Government & Defence is hiring a DBA Specialist (SC Cleared) for a defence programme focused on critical national security and public sector operations. The role is based onsite in Leicester or Hursley and involves managing large-scale database platforms, performance tuning, backups, security, and high availability.

You will work with Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB, and contribute to automation, on-call support, and disaster recovery within secure environments.

Qualifications

• DBA experience across multiple DBMS platforms including Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL or MongoDB.
• Expertise in performance tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with high availability, replication, backup and disaster recovery solutions.
• Strong SQL knowledge and experience in Linux and Windows environments.
• Scripting and automation with PowerShell; Ansible knowledge is highly desirable.
• Exposure to cloud database services, Apache Tomcat, JVM, and NetApp technologies is beneficial.

Leicester/Hursley | 5 Days Onsite

We're looking for an experienced DBA Specialist to join a high-profile defence programme supporting critical national security and public sector operations. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a secure environment, managing and optimising large-scale, mission-critical database platforms that underpin essential services.

You'll be responsible for database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery, security management, high availability, and disaster recovery across enterprise environments. Working alongside technical specialists, you'll help ensure database resilience, scalability, and availability while driving automation and operational improvements.

Key skills and experience

• Strong DBA experience across Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB
• Database performance tuning, optimisation, and troubleshooting expertise
• Experience with high availability, replication, backup, and disaster recovery solutions
• Strong SQL knowledge and experience working within Linux and Windows environments
• PowerShell scripting and automation experience, with Ansible knowledge highly desirable
• Exposure to cloud database services, Apache Tomcat, JVM, and NetApp technologies beneficial

Due to the nature of the work, candidates must hold active SC Clearance, with NPPV3 highly desirable. The role requires full-time onsite attendance in Leicester or Hursley, along with participation in a paid out-of-hours on-call rota supporting critical P1/P2 incidents.
