Job summary

CBSbutler is seeking a Data Test Analyst to support a major HMRC data migration programme. You will validate data integrity, accuracy and functionality as SAS 9.4 and Viya environments are migrated to SAS Viya 4 on DPS AWS, working with data, testing and migration teams.

The role is hybrid in Telford with 2 days onsite per week, in a 6‑month contract and an active SC Clearance requirement. You will develop test plans, scripts and acceptance criteria, ensuring quality and governance throughout

Qualifications

• Strong experience in data testing and validation for large-scale data migrations.
• Excellent SQL skills including data comparison, reconciliation and profiling.
• Experience testing ETL processes and data integration.
• Experience working with SAS 9.4 and/or SAS Viya.
• Familiarity with test automation and scripting using Python, SAS and/or SQL.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Experience with defect management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Active SC Clearance - HMRC clearance preferred, or active SC clearance held through another government body.

Responsibilities

• Test Planning & Design: Develop test plans, scenarios and test cases for data migration, transformation and validation.
• Define acceptance criteria for migrated datasets and analytical workflows.
• Ensure test coverage aligns with business and technical requirements.
• Data Validation & Reconciliation: Perform data reconciliation between SAS 9.4 and SAS Viya 4 environments.
• Validate ETL processes, data pipelines and reporting outputs.
• Identify data discrepancies and ensure migrated data is accurate, complete and fit for purpose.
• Test Automation & Scripting: Develop automated data validation scripts using SQL, Python and/or SAS.
• Support integration of automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and improve testing efficiency via automation.
• Defect Management: Log, investigate, track and manage defects; work with Data Engineers and migration teams to resolve issues.
• Provide clear test evidence and status reporting.

You will play a key role in validating data integrity, accuracy and functionality as HMRC's SAS estate, including SAS 9.4 and Viya 3.5, is migrated to SAS Viya 4 on DPS AWS.

Key Responsibilities

• Test Planning & Design
• Develop detailed test plans, scenarios and test cases for data migration, transformation and validation.
• Define acceptance criteria for migrated datasets and analytical workflows.
• Ensure test coverage aligns with business and technical requirements.
• Data Validation & Reconciliation

• Work closely with Data Engineers, Developers and migration teams to resolve issues.
• Provide clear test evidence and status reporting.
• Governance & Collaboration
• Ensure testing activities comply with HMRC security, GDPR and data governance requirements.
• Work closely with Business Analysts, Test Managers and migration teams.
• Support UAT and provide evidence required for formal sign-off.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong experience in data testing and validation, particularly within large-scale data migration programmes.
• Excellent SQL skills, including data comparison, reconciliation and profiling.
• Experience testing ETL processes and data integration.
• Experience working with SAS 9.4 and/or SAS Viya.
• Experience with data migration, transformation and validation.
• Familiarity with test automation and scripting using Python, SAS and/or SQL.
• Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
• Experience with defect management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
• Active SC Clearance - HMRC clearance preferred, or active SC clearance held through another recognised government body.

Desirable

• ISTQB Foundation or Advanced Test Analyst certification.
• Previous experience working within HM Government or other regulated environments.
• Understanding of AWS/cloud platforms.
• Experience with containerised deployments.
• Experience supporting large-scale technology or data transformation programmes.
