Job Description:

About the role

Do you want to play a role in making London safer through the generation and effective use of data science and analysis? We’re recruiting multiple roles to create a new Data Science team within the MOPAC Evidence & Insight function.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing And Crime (MOPAC) is the organisation through which the Mayor of London exercises his role as the Police and Crime Commissioner for London. It is led by the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. MOPAC undertakes a broad range of statutory duties and works closely with the Mayor of London, Deputy Mayor, and Metropolitan Police Service to deliver initiatives that create safer London communities.

Within MOPAC, Evidence & Insight is the dedicated in-house analytics team consisting of experienced analysts and researchers conducting performance analytics, social research, and public opinion surveys to support MOPAC and ensure evidence-based policy making. Read more about the team here.

As a Data Scientist at MOPAC, you will work under the guidance of the Principal and Senior Data Scientists within the Evidence and Insight Team. Your role involves applying data science techniques to provide actionable insights, supporting specialized areas within the E&I technical landscape, and collaborating with stakeholders to promote data science usage. You will also support executing a strategic data science program, select and apply analytical methodologies, and contribute to designing data dashboards and scenario planning tools for stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Applying expertise in data science techniques such as data mining, visualization, predictive analysis, statistics, time series, large language models, and geospatial analytics.
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Having knowledge of data science and a keen interest in learning various techniques.
  • Proficiency in coding with SQL, Python, or R to manipulate and analyze data efficiently.

Ensuring data science is a key aspect of MOPAC's decision-making processes, overseeing its application across different areas.

Fluent in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

This role is ideal for a curious, flexible thinker with excellent statistical, technical, and interpersonal skills. If you are passionate about using data to benefit Londoners, apply today.
