Data Scientist - Gaming

Location: Oxford city centre, office-based role requirement

Remuneration: £45,000 - £60,000 plus a massive bonus potential, pension, healthcare, life assurance, gym membership, and support with relocation if needed.
(Please note - unfortunately, sponsorship cannot be offered for this position.)

Have you worked as a games analyst or a data scientist within the mobile gaming, free-to-play games, indie, or AAA games industry before?

Would you know how to set up and carry out analysis projects that explore player behavior, identify reasons for customer churn, and develop decision models to influence monetization strategies, translating these insights into actionable recommendations?

You will join an indie mobile gaming company with successful titles and support their data and insights team.

Reporting to the head of data science and working across all titles, including popular football games, your work will be varied due to the small size of the company, encompassing:

  1. Product analysis to understand player behavior and assess the impact of updates, aiming to improve user experience and monetization.
  2. Statistical analysis applying advanced data science techniques to strategies like churn prevention, pricing, and rewards, with a solid understanding of statistical significance.
  3. Deep dive into game and commercial analytics to provide actionable insights and recommendations.
  4. Designing and executing split-run experiments on the player base.
  5. Creating data visualizations to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  6. Some data engineering tasks, mainly setting up data fields due to limited resources.

This role offers the chance to work on engaging projects aligned with your passion for gaming, directly impacting user experience and business performance.

What you can expect from the company:

  • An environment promoting a healthy work/life balance with a 'no overtime' policy.
  • A generous bonus scheme, potentially exceeding industry standards.
  • Possibility of a sign-on bonus if a higher base salary is desired.
  • Additional perks like tickets to football matches and occasional box seats at Wembley.

What they’re looking for from you:

  • Must have commercial experience in data science or game analytics within the gaming or related industries like gambling or sports betting.
  • A strong passion for gaming and/or football, especially football games.
  • Proficiency in Python and SQL, with confidence in data modeling and statistical techniques, including significance testing.
  • Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau, Qlik, or PowerBI.
  • Curiosity about the 'why' behind data findings and analytics outputs.
  • Comfort with fast-paced environments typical of indie gaming companies.
