Job description

Data Scientist – Defence & Security | £65,000 - £90,000 + Benefits

Hybrid: 2–3 Days/Week in Herefordshire

Eligibility: SC Cleared or Eligible (British Nationals Only – No Dual Nationality)

A leading AI consultancy, recognised for its work across security and defence, is seeking a Data Scientist to lead high-impact projects in support of mission-critical outcomes. Working on-site with a major customer in the Hereford area, this is a unique opportunity to apply cutting-edge machine learning techniques to some of the UK’s most complex and sensitive challenges.

This role is ideal for data scientists who bring both technical depth and strong leadership capability — able to design production-grade ML systems, mentor teams, and shape engagements from initial scoping through to deployment.

The Role
  • Lead end-to-end data science projects from early discovery through to production implementation.
  • Build bespoke models using a range of techniques (e.g. supervised/unsupervised learning, Bayesian inference, time-series analysis, NLP).
  • Collaborate with engineers and commercial teams to shape deliverables and technical approach.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to data scientists within your team.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and external thought leadership where appropriate.
What You’ll Bring
  • Senior-level experience in data science or a quantitative academic background.
  • Strong Python programming skills and experience with data science libraries (e.g. NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-Learn).
  • Familiarity with at least one deep learning framework (e.g. PyTorch, TensorFlow).
  • Excellent grasp of core statistical and machine learning methods.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to stakeholders and clients.
  • Proven leadership skills within delivery-focused teams.
Desirable Experience
  • Working in secure environments or on defence security projects.
  • Strong understanding of data engineering or APIs.
  • Experience defining project scope and technical feasibility in a client-facing setting.
Benefits Include
  • Competitive salary between £65,000 – £90,000
  • Private healthcare
  • Company pension scheme
  • Flexible, hybrid working model
  • Learning and development opportunities

Important: You must be a sole British Citizen (no dual nationality) and either hold active SC clearance or be eligible to obtain it.
