Job summary

Hitachi Rail UK Limited is seeking a Data Science Engineer to join the Analytics team at our Eastleigh office. The role focuses on large-scale sensor datasets, ML and condition monitoring to deliver analytics capabilities to customers worldwide.

The candidate should have a strong STEM background (Master’s/PhD preferred) and commercial data science experience, with excellent problem-solving and communication skills. On-site work in Eastleigh is required.

Qualifications

• Degree, Master’s or PhD in a STEM subject.
• Strong programming skills in Python, R or MATLAB.
• Experience analysing and interpreting complex datasets.
• Understanding of Data Science and Machine Learning principles.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
• Demonstrated experience delivering technical or research-based projects.
• A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities and a willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Analyse complex sensor and operational datasets to identify trends and insights.
• Design, develop and refine condition monitoring and ML algorithms.
• Develop software and analytical tools to support business needs.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and analytics teams on new capabilities.
• Produce clear technical reports, presentations and visualisations for internal and external audiences.
• Improve analytical approaches, tools and processes continuously.
• Support production analytics systems and investigate performance issues.
